Boston Rapper Raheem Blake Set to Release Highly Anticipated Mixtape, ‘The Rising’

BOSTON — Raheem Blake, a Dorchester-born rapper with strong ties to Brockton, Massachusetts, is poised to make a significant impact on the hip-hop scene with the upcoming release of his mixtape, “The Rising.” Blake, known for his authentic style and conscious lyrics, aims to bring a unique voice to a region often overlooked in the music industry.
Blake, whose legal name is Rakim Blake Bey, draws inspiration from 5 Percenter philosophy, 90s fashion, and Lo Life culture, channeling the spirit of artists like Guru from Gang Starr. “My style is influenced by authenticity and not following the crowd,” Blake said. “I truly do it as an outlet and an art form.”
“The Rising,” set to drop this spring, features 11 tracks with production from AraabMuzik, Deevo Da Genius, and Clblizz, all New England natives. Blake plans to release two singles, “Priorities” and “Me An U,” within the next two weeks.
Blake’s journey into music began as a fascination with DJing, which evolved into a passion for rhyming. He aims to be a leading hip-hop figure from a region that has historically seen limited success in the genre. “What made me get into music was my love for it as a small child,” Blake explained. “I wanted to be a part of something that shaped me and millions across the planet.”
Notable career highlights include a freestyle performance with Live Hip Hop Daily in Atlanta, and a second-place finish in the Coast to Coast competition, where he was unable to perform in the finals due to COVID-19 lockdowns. He has also performed at and maintains strong ties with Soundlab in Brockton, a two-time Boston Music Award winner. His 2020 project, “Uphams Corner,” hosted by DJ Chubby Chub, paid homage to his Dorchester neighborhood.
Blake acknowledges the challenges he has faced, including overcoming self-doubt and perfectionism. “My biggest challenges have been with myself,” Blake said. “Not trusting myself more as far as putting more music out, worried how it’ll be received.” He hopes “The Rising” will showcase his potential and establish him as a leading artist in Massachusetts.
In the coming years, Blake envisions his brand contributing to a resurgence of conscious and creative music. He aspires to nurture young artists and explore opportunities in film. “I wanna go down as a legend in New England for my rapping ability and my mind to inspire younger people to do stuff they thought they weren’t capable of,” he said.
Blake’s goal with this release is to highlight the unique talent emerging from unexpected places. He aims to promote a message of authenticity and inspiration.
